Robert Robinson Taylor

In 1892 Robert Robinson Taylor became the first African American to graduate from MIT and is widely considered the first academically trained Black architect in the United States. Recruited by Booker T. Washington to Tuskegee Institute, he designed dozens of buildings on its campus including the Chapel and the Science Building, and served as director of Tuskegee's Department of Mechanical Industries for over three decades.
