John Lewis

John Lewis was 23 when he stood at the Lincoln Memorial and spoke at the 1963 March on Washington, and 25 when he was beaten unconscious by Alabama state troopers on the Edmund Pettus Bridge during "Bloody Sunday." He chaired the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, then served 17 terms in the U.S. House of Representatives as "the conscience of the Congress," championing voting rights until his final days.

“Get in good trouble, necessary trouble, and help redeem the soul of America.”
