James Baldwin

Novelist, essayist, and unflinching public witness, James Baldwin wrote about the intersections of race, sexuality, and religion with a moral clarity that made his work required reading during the Civil Rights era and still today. Go Tell It on the Mountain, Giovanni's Room, and The Fire Next Time are landmarks of American letters. Living much of his life in France, he returned repeatedly to speak truth to power at home.

“Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.”
