Coretta Scott King

A trained classical singer and activist in her own right, Coretta Scott King marched beside her husband Martin from Montgomery to Selma and, four days after his assassination in 1968, led the Memphis sanitation workers' march in his place. She founded The King Center in Atlanta, campaigned successfully for a federal Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and championed women's rights, LGBTQ equality, and the global movement against apartheid until her death in 2006.

“Struggle is a never ending process. Freedom is never really won, you earn it and win it in every generation.”
