Prathia Hall

Prathia Hall was a SNCC field secretary in southwest Georgia, a survivor of the 1962 arson attack on Mount Olive Baptist Church, and one of the great preachers of the civil-rights era. Her prayers over the ashes of the burned church — including the phrase "I have a dream" — are widely credited with inspiring Dr. King's famous 1963 speech. She later became the first woman to hold the Martin Luther King Jr. Chair at Boston University's School of Theology.

“I have a dream — that one day the sons and daughters of former slaves will sit down at the table of brotherhood.”
