Ronald McNair

Physicist, saxophonist, and karate expert, Ronald McNair earned his PhD in physics from MIT in 1976 and joined NASA two years later. He became the second African American to fly in space aboard Challenger in 1984. He was preparing to become the first person to record a saxophone solo in orbit when he died in the Challenger disaster of January 28, 1986. Countless mentoring programs bear his name.

“Whether or not you reach your goals in life depends entirely on how well you prepare for them.”
