Rosa Parks

A seasoned NAACP secretary long before her name became famous, Rosa Parks refused to surrender her bus seat in Montgomery, Alabama on December 1, 1955. Her arrest sparked the 381-day Montgomery Bus Boycott and launched the modern Civil Rights Movement. She spent the following decades registering voters, investigating racial violence, and mentoring young activists in Detroit, and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1996.

“You must never be fearful about what you are doing when it is right.”
